The PRL is an interactive game in which players form their own imaginary rugby league clubs using players from the NRL. Each PRL club has $100 to buy a unique team of players. The competition has its own draw and clubs contest matches each round.

Players score tries, goals and field goals as they score them in the NRL. There is a PRL competition ladder, which works exactly the same way as its NRL counterpart, with a classic five-team finals system at the end of the season.
